Amanda Penrose Hart had the pleasure of going on a few painting trips with Reg Mombassa and had the opportunity to paint him from life. She did many studies for this portrait, which, at 40×30, ended up smaller than she had planned.
About the sitter
Reg Mombassa was born in New Zealand and moved to Australia in 1969. He is an Australian musician an artist, known for his role as the lead guitarist and singer songwriter for the band Mental As Anything, and recipient of an Aria Award in 1996. Since 1986, he worked as an integral part of the iconic brand Mambo designing t-shirts and posters. His designs were featured in the closing ceremony for the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. Reg lives and works in Sydney.
About the artist
Amanda Penrose Hart was born in Brisbane in 1963. She is predominantly a plein air landscape painter who graduated from Queensland College of Art in 1983 with a Diploma of Fine Art, and then again from Griffith University in 1991, with a Bachelor of Visual Arts. Her paintings are held in collections of the Australian National Maritime Museum, the Australia Club, Australian National University, Macquarie Bank, Parliament House Canberra, the NSW Bar Association and numerous regional galleries across Australia.

Behind the scenes
I painted Reg from life while he was performing in a concert in NZ. He was very agreeable to having his portrait painted. This is my 3rd portrait of him
